K. J. Joy passed away at his Chennai residence at 2:30 am after a prolonged battle with illness. He had been in Chennai for a long time and was bedridden after he suffered a stroke.

K.J. Joy was born on June 14, 1946, in Trichur, Cochin, India, and was from Nellikunnu in Thrissur, Kerala. He was a well-known Indian composer who was music director for the Malayalam film industry. He composed music for 71 films.
K.J. Joy began his career as a music director in 1974, after many years as an accordion recording artist for various music directors, primarily his mentor MS Viswanathan, who encouraged him to try his hand as a music director after realizing his potential.
K.J. Joy’s contribution to the Malayalam cinema is immense and he composed music for over 200 films. He made his debut as a music composer with ‘Love Letter’ in 1975. His first film was Love Letter in 1975.
