X, formerly known as Twitter, is rolling out its highly anticipated audio and video calling feature. Users, however, need to manually activate this feature before they can use it.
This move comes after Elon Musk hinted at the introduction of this feature on the platform.
Earlier in August, X’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, confirmed that the social media platform would soon offer native calling capabilities, allowing users to make video or audio calls without sharing phone numbers.
These features will be integrated into the ‘Direct Message’ (DM) menu, with safeguards to prevent spam calls, as mentioned during her interaction with CNBC.
To enable audio and video calling on X, users need to navigate to app settings, select ‘Privacy and Safety,’ and then click on ‘Direct Messages.’ If the feature is available for their account, they will see a toggle labeled ‘Enable audio and video calling,’ which they can switch on.
