American actor Carl Winston Lumbly was born on August 14, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Carl attended school at South High School and Macalester College, where he was awarded diplomas.

For the first time, Lumbly had a job as a journalist in Minnesota. While creating fiction about a workshop theatre, he was also hired as an actor. He played with the comedy group for two years before to moving to San Francisco. In the newspaper, he saw an advertisement for “two black actors for South African political plays.”

Among Carl’s most well-known performances are those of the first Black television superhero M.A.N.T.I.S., Dick Hallorann in Doctor Sleep, Marcus Petrie as an NYPD detective on Cagney & Lacey on CBS, and Marcus Dixon as a CIA agent on Alias on ABC.
