Mary Lou Retton was born on January 24, 1968, and she is 55 years old best known as an American retired gymnast. At the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, she won a gold medal in the individual all-around competition, as well as two silver medals and two bronze medals. Retton’s performance made her one of the most popular athletes in the United States.

According to Mary Lou her daughter, McKenna Kelley, who shared on social media, her mother is extremely ill.

“My amazing mom, Mary Lou, has a very rare form of pneumonia and is fighting for her life,” Kelley wrote. “She is not able to breathe on her own. She’s been in the ICU for over a week now. Out of respect for her and her privacy, I will not disclose all details.” Kelly went on to say that her mother is not insured.

From our search, Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs may fill with fluid or pus (purulent material), causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.
