Jean Boht died on September 12, 2023, aged 91, and was an English actress, most famous for the role of Nellie Boswell in Carla Lane’s sitcom Bread from 1986 to 1991.
Both won a British Comedy Award now known as the “National Comedy Award” for Best Comedy Actress in 1990. She starred in The Brighton Belles, an unsuccessful British adaptation of the American sitcom The Golden Girls as the character of Josephine, based on Sophia Petrillo, the part made famous by Estelle Getty.
On stage, Boht appeared with Jeremy Irons in Embers in 2006 at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London. She also appeared in the film Mothers and Daughters in 2004 and starred in Chris Shepherd’s award-winning short film Bad Night for the Blues in 2010.
