The Russian professional tennis player Vera Zvonareva attended one of the high schools in her hometown and in 2007, she graduated from the Russian State University of Physical Education with a degree in Physical Education. She studied for a second degree in international economic relations at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow.

Zvonareva was introduced to tennis at the age of six and turned professional in 2000. Her career-high ranking by the Women’s Tennis Association is world No. 2. She started to compete on the ITF Women’s Circuit in 1999, debuting at an ITF tournament in Tbilisi, Georgia. She won three qualifying matches there to reach the main draw before losing in the first round. The next year, she won an ITF event in Moscow, without dropping a set, despite being unranked.

Vera Igorevna is the only child of her parents and has no brother or sister. She was born in 1984 in Moscow to Igor Zvonarev and Natalia Bykova. Her father Igor played Bandy in the USSR championship with Dynamo Moscow, and her mother Nataliya played field hockey and was the bronze medalist at the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games.
