Philippe Curval dead on August 5, 2023, at the age of 93. He was the pseudonym of Philippe Tronche, a French journalist and science fiction writer. He first became of interest in 1962 and 1977 won the Prix Apollo for Cette chère humanité. He is also known for his works of science fiction criticism and as an editor.

Curval was also the author of a prolific body of work some forty novels and a hundred short stories including the cotton fortress in 1967 or This dear humanity in 1976, which is part of the cycle Europe after the rain. If everyone sees him as a pioneer of science fiction, he disapproved of this term to replace it with that “extraordinary novel” or “speculative fiction”.
