Texas’s Austin is where Short was born, reared, and has spent his whole life. He went to Texas A&M University. Gail Elizabeth Hardy is his wife. Elizabeth Ann Short is their only child together.
In 1987, Short turned professional. Before turning pro and traveling in 1997, he worked as a club pro in the Austin region. He initially competed on the mini-tours before earning a spot on the 1998 Nationwide Tour.
In 2002–2003, he participated on the Nationwide Tour once again. At The Reese’s Cup Classic in 2003, he had his best result on the Nationwide Tour by placing T-2.
As a 40-year-old rookie, Short attained his goal of playing on the PGA Tour in 2004. In a sudden-death playoff at the second hole of the Michelin Championship in Las Vegas in 2005, he overcame Jim Furyk to claim his lone PGA Tour victory. Short had been the fourth alternate to enter the field at the start of the week.
Short tried to resume his PGA Tour career in 2013 after three years of being sidelined by persistent back issues.
