Gregory Richard Gianforte (born April 17, 1961) is an American businessman, politician, software engineer, and author who has served as Montana’s 25th governor since 2021. Gianforte, a Republican, was the U.S. representative representing Montana’s at-large congressional district from 2017 to 2021.
RightNow Technologies, a customer relationship management software company, was founded in 1997 by Gianforte and his wife, Susan. The company went public in 2004 and employed over 1,000 people at the time. Oracle Corporation paid $1.5 billion for RightNow Technologies in 2011.

Gianforte met his wife, Susan, a first-generation daughter of German immigrants while working at Bell Labs in New Jersey in the 1980s.
They tied the knot in 1988. Gianforte and his wife have lived in Bozeman since 1995 when they moved from New Jersey. They have four kids. Gianforte grew up as a Presbyterian. He and his wife attend Grace Bible Church in Bozeman, a nondenominational church.
Susan is the widowed daughter of German immigrants to New York City, where she was born and raised. She received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, an MS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley, and an MBA from NYU while working for Bell Laboratories.
Gianforte campaigned for governor of Montana as the Republican contender in 2016 but lost to incumbent Governor Steve Bullock. Gianforte defeated Democratic contender Rob Quist in a special election for Montana’s at-large congressional seat in May 2017 to fill a vacancy left by Ryan Zinke’s appointment as U.S. Secretary of the Interior.
