Huma Mahmood Abedin is an American political employee who served as vice chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. Prior to that, Abedin served as Clinton’s deputy chief of staff during her tenure as Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013.  She also served as Clinton’s traveling chief of staff and former assistant during her 2008 presidential campaign for the Democratic nomination.

Abedin became one of Hillary Clinton’s closest advisers during her employment at the State Department and presidential campaign. Her high-profile political career has drawn attention to her personal life, particularly her marriage to former congressman Anthony Weiner.

Abedin was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on July 28, 1975, to two professors. Abedin is of Indian and Pakistani ancestry. She has a brother and a sister.

Her parents were offered employment at the University of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia when Abedin was two years old. Abedin’s family relocated to Jeddah, where she was reared and resided until she returned to the United States for college.

During her youth and adolescence, Abedin traveled extensively and attended a British ladies’ school. When she was 17, her father died of severe kidney disease.

She wanted to work in the White House press office as a youngster, just like her role model Christiane Amanpour. She received a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University.
