Is Jerry Springer a lawyer?
Yes! In addition to his work in entertainment, Springer has been a lawyer, the mayor of Cincinnati, an award-winning newsreader, an author, a Broadway actor, an executive producer, a ballroom dancer, a podcast host, and much more.
He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Tulane University and his law degree from Northwestern University. In 1968, he joined the Kennedy campaign, but soon after, he, like the rest of the world, experienced the agony of Kennedy’s killing. Springer was propelled into political action as a result of this historical event.
Springer led the effort in Ohio to reduce the voting age from 21 to 18. It all came to a head with his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. As a result, the 26th Amendment was ratified. He ran for Congress in Ohio in 1970, then moved on to municipal office, obtaining a seat on the Cincinnati City Council in 1971. He was Mayor of Cincinnati for five terms before retiring at the age of 33.
