According to a statement, the renowned writer and producer died from cancer.

Poole was born on September 15, 1948, in Prescott, Arizona, and reared in Kennewick, Washington. After graduating from the University of Washington, he began working for King World Productions in Seattle. In 1975, he moved to Los Angeles to work at Hanna-Barbera, where he quickly became a prolific writer of Saturday morning cartoon fares such as The Great Grape Ape, Scooby’s Laff-A-Lympics, The All-New Super Friends Hour, and The Smurfs, among others.

Poole also contributed to the strange, colorful live-action shows of Sid and Marty Krofft, who rivaled Hanna-Barbera in Saturday morning popularity. Poole’s credits include Far Out Space Nuts, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, The Krofft Supershow, and The Kroff Superstar Hour.

Poole made the transition to primetime in the early 1980s, writing and producing for Aaron Spelling shows such as Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, Glitter, Lottery!, and Hotel.
