Norman Reynolds (born March 26, 1934) was a British production designer and art director who worked on a number of films over his career. In the early 1960s, he began his career in the film industry as a draughtsman and art director on various films until becoming a production designer in the mid-1970s.
Reynolds is most recognized for his work as the production designer on the original Star Wars trilogy. He collaborated closely with filmmaker George Lucas to establish the look and feel of the Star Wars universe, designing many of the film’s iconic sets and objects such as the Death Star, Millennium Falcon, and lightsabers.

Reynolds, a British filmmaker and production designer, died in April 2023 at the age of 89.
According to a statement given by his family following his death, Norman Reynolds was married to Ann and the couple had three children, although little information is available on his marital life.
His family said in a statement: “Norman was a cherished husband, father, father-in-law, granddad, and great-grandad.
“You would not know that behind his unassuming, funny, and affable exterior lay an enormously talented production designer who brought so many of the films we all love to live through his iconic set designs.
“He was amazed at the fanbase his work created and how much his work meant to them. But above all, he loved and delighted in his large and growing family.
“He died peacefully with his wife Ann and three daughters by his side.”
