Don Megson was regarded as one of Sheffield Wednesday’s most loyal supporters. He was acquired by Wednesday in 1952 from Mossley in the Cheshire League.
He made his first team debut in November 1959. Later, he made a name for himself as a solid left-back and eventually took over as club captain.
Don was the first losing captain to guide his group in a lap of honor after their 1966 FA Cup Final defeat against Everton on Wednesday, which ended in a 3-2 defeat.
Before moving to Bristol Rovers in March 1970, Don played 442 games for Sheffield Wednesday, including 386 league games and 6 goals. In those 31 league appearances, he also scored one goal.
