On January 18, 1994, Kang Ji-young, a South Korean singer and actress who now calls Japan home, was born. She goes by the name Jiyoung or JY. Kang Ji-young was a member of the South Korean girl group Kara
She has ties to the K-pop performer NS Yoon-G. She attended Bongilcheon Middle School as well as Muhak Women’s High School, from which she graduated in February 2012.
Jiyoung and another member, Hara, joined the female group Kara when Kim Sung-hee left in 2008. At the time, she was the group’s youngest member, 14 years old.
Jiyoung inked a deal with the agency Sweet Power before departing from Kara to resume her acting career in Japan with her name spelt in kanji. On September 6 at the Saitama Super Arena, she made her runway debut at the 19th Tokyo Girls Collection fashion show.
Jiyoung made her acting debut in Japan with the Hell Teacher Nube live-action adaptation, in which she played the part of Yukime.
