Symere Woods, better known by his stage as Lil Uzi Vert, was born in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 31, 1994. Because of his lightning-fast delivery, he became well-known and earned his stage name. The rapper attributes his introduction to rapping to William Ashton, a fellow high schooler.
His primary musical influences are Wiz Khalifa, Young Thug, Kanye West, Marilyn Manson, and Young Thug. He made his rap debut after appearing on a couple DJ Diamond Kuts songs. Uzi Vert’s career took off after he released “Dej Loaf” in 2015, a song he called after a Detroit singer with the same name.
After hearing one of his songs on the radio, Don Cannon recognized his brilliance. Eventually, Uzi Vert received record deals from Cannon, DJ Drama and Leighton Morrison’s Generation Now, and Atlantic Records. Rich The Kid, A$AP Ferg, and Uzi Vert all contributed to Carnage’s 2015 track “WDYW,” which significantly increased his popularity.
Uzi Vert is nominated for three awards at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. For “Bad and Boujee,” two categories—Top Rap Song and Top Rap Collaboration—and one for Top Artist were added. He plans to release “Love is Rage 2,” his sixth mixtape, in the same year.
