Dan Nwanyanwu, a Nigerian politician, businessman, and lawyer was the chairman of the Labour Party (LP) from 2004 to 2014. On November 23, 1959, he was born. In the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, in the local government area of Amuzu-Amaimo, Dan Nwanyanwu attended Oraifite Boys’ High School in Anambra State and St. James Primary School in Amuzu for his early education. He first became interested in labour relations at Howard University’s School of Business in Washington, D.C.

He was a Union Bank employee from 1979 to 1993. He held various posts within the National Union of Banking, Insurance, and Financial Institutions Workers (NUBIFIE) during this time, eventually rising to become National Treasurer and then National President beginning in 1989.

The latter appointment made his participation in the Nigeria Labour Congress’ National Executive Council automatic (NLC).

In 2004, Nwanyanwu was chosen to serve as the national chairperson of the “Party for Social Democracy” (PSD), which was established by the Nigerian Labour Congress. Later, to more accurately reflect its new ideologies, the party changed its name to the “Labour Party.” Following his initial term as the party’s national chairman ended in December 2009, he was re-elected at an Abuja convention. In order to establish and lead a political organization that had never existed before, he had to start from scratch. Under his leadership, Olusegun Mimiko, a candidate for the LP, was chosen to lead Ondo State.
