The founder and only boss of the Medellín Cartel was Pablo Emilio Escobar Gaviria, a Colombian drug lord and narcoterrorist who lived from 1 December 1949 until 2 December 1993. Escobar, known as “the king of cocaine,” accumulated an estimated net worth of US$30 billion by the time of his death, which would be equivalent to $70 billion in 2022. In the 1980s and the early 1990s, his drug cartel controlled the majority of the cocaine traffic into the United States.
