In June 2015, Antony and the Johnsons performed at a fundraiser for the Martu people of Parnngurr in Western Australia, who are fighting to stop a uranium mine from being built close to their community by the Canadian multinational Cameco and Mitsubishi in Tasmania, Australia.
In support of this campaign, Anohni joined Martu representatives in a news conference at the MCA in Sydney and on ABC’s Q&A.
Anohni released HOPELESSNESS via Rough Trade and Secretly Canadian in May 2016.
Where are Antony and the Johnsons?
The collective Antony and the Johnsons are led by singer-songwriter Antony Hegarty, who was born in 1971 in Chichester, Sussex, England. Since making their debut in 2000, the group has released four studio albums, and their album “I Am A Bird Now” earned them the 2005 Mercury Award.
Anohni revealed the title of her upcoming album through Facebook and her official website on February 23, 2015, however, she didn’t specify a release date. She, Oneohtrix Point Never, and Hudson Mohawke mixed and co-produced the record. The title would be ANOHNI when it was published. An “electronic record with some sharp fangs” was how one person described it.
