The stage name Iggy Pop is more commonly associated with James Newell Osterberg Jr., an American singer, musician, radio host, songwriter, and actor born on April 21, 1947.
On his mother’s side, he has Norwegian and Danish ancestry, and on his father’s, he has English, German, and Irish ancestry. His adoptive mother was a Swedish-American nurse who worked with Osterberg.
In Ypsilanti, Michigan, the family lived in a trailer park. Ron Asheton later said that he was an ordinary teen who “hung around with the trendy kids who wore chinos, cashmere sweaters, and penny loafers.
Osterberg started playing the drums in the fifth grade using rubber pads that were fastened to the plywood before his parents gave him a drum set. It was determined that Pop had a curved spine and that one of his legs was 1.5 inches shorter than the other.
Pop made friends with Johnny Depp, Jim Jarmusch, and Jonathan Shaw in the 1990s. Shaw claimed that all four, with the exception of Pop, shared a tattoo of a skull and crossbones on their bodies and wore matching rings with skull motifs.

Iggy’s stage moniker, “Pop,” was inspired by his similarity to his pal Jimmy Pop. Iggy decided to shave his eyebrows when Jimmy lost all of his hair, including his eyebrows.
Iggy was given the nickname Iggy Pop because it appeared as though he was linked to Jimmy since he and the other person were the only two without eyebrows.
