In 16 seasons with the Athletics and Brewers, Bando batted.254 with 242 home runs and 1,039 RBIs. Between 1972 and 1974, the three-time champion All-Star, who was a standout for Arizona State in college, won three straight championships with the A’s.

Bando played for Milwaukee’s first winning club in 1978 and its first postseason team in 1981 during his final five seasons there.

After his playing career, the native of Cleveland joined the Brewers’ front office. From October 1991 to August 1999, he held the position of sixth general manager for the team.

Milwaukee Sal Bando passed away on Friday in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, following a battle with cancer, according to his family.

Bando was the former third baseman and captain of three World Series-winning A’s teams in the 1970s, the first free agent signing in Brewers history, and eventually the team’s general manager. He was 78.
