In 1994, Sleater-Kinney, an American rock group, was founded in Olympia, Washington. Following the departure of longstanding member Janet Weiss (vocals, drums, and harmonica) in 2019, the band’s current lineup consists of Corin Tucker (vocals and guitar) and Carrie Brownstein (guitar and vocals).
With roots in the riot grrrl movement, Sleater-Kinney has grown to be a significant force in the American indie music industry. The band is renowned for its liberal and feminist politics.
Sleater-Kinney still a Band?
The early to mid-1990s punk and independent rock scenes in Olympia, Washington, where Sleater-Kinney formed during the last years of the riot grrl movement, served as the foundation for their musical style. Tucker and Brownstein both emerged from established acts at the outset of the wave.
Weiss tweeted that it was “time for me to move on” and that she will be quitting the band on July 1, 2019. On September 5, the band’s first performance without Weiss took place at the Hopscotch Music Festival with new drummer Angie Boylan.
The group is still performing. The band revealed in May 2021 that Path of Wellness, their upcoming album, would arrive on June 11. On May 11, 2021, the debut single, “Worry With You,” was made available.
