American musician Mark Lavon “Levon” Helm rose to fame as the group’s drummer and one of the trio of lead singers. He learned he was born in Elaine, Arkansas, on May 26, 1940.

In 1994, The Band helped him become a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Helm passed away on April 19, 2012, on a specific day. Helm and Libby Titus first crossed paths in April 1969, while the band was in the midst of recording their second album.
