Eleanor Torrey Powell, an American actress, and dancer was born on November 21, 1912, and passed away on February 11, 1982. Her tap dance talents in musical films in the 1930s and 1940s made her one of Metro-Goldwyn-top Mayer’s dancing stars during the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Powell is best known for her roles in a number of musical films, including Born to Dance (1936), Broadway Melody of 1938 (1937), Rosalie (1937), and Broadway Melody of 1940, all of which were made specifically to highlight her dancing abilities. Powell has also appeared in vaudeville and on Broadway (1940).

She ceased appearing in films in the middle of the 1940s and began hosting a Christian children’s TV show, although she continued to make cameo appearances in dance-specific parts in films like Thousands Cheer and became a star of a well-liked nightclub show in Las Vegas.

She went away from cancer at age 69. Powell was one of the most accomplished and significant female dancers of the Hollywood studio era.
