When Jobs gave a speech at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she was a student, he met his future wife, Laurene Powell. Laurene “was right there in the first row in the lecture hall, and I couldn’t take my eyes off of her… kept losing my line of thought, and started feeling a little euphoric,” he said shortly after the event.
He approached her in the parking lot after the lecture and invited her out to supper. With a few small exceptions, they were together for the rest of his life from that point on.
Jobs proposed on New Year’s Day 1990 with “a bunch of freshly gathered wildflowers”. On March 18, 1991, they married in a Buddhist ceremony at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park. Powell was rumored to be dating Eleven Madison Park chef Daniel Humm in 2019. Vanity Fair recently labeled them a “art world power couple” after it was found that Powell’s Emerson Collective was investing in Superblue, an art project dedicated to interactive exhibition spaces, and was most likely motivated by her art collector spouse.
Humm describes Powell as the “most incredible person I have ever met,” and the couple certainly brings out the best in each other.
He went on to tell the source that she has “enabled me to see myself more clearly, and I get to be more myself by knowing her. Every day, she encourages me.”
Humm made waves when he announced that his restaurant would switch to a plant-based cuisine in 2021.
Powell is in a committed relationship with the skilled chef, but she still has fond memories of her marriage to the late Apple inventor.
