On October 4, 2022, singer-songwriter Loretta Lynn (born April 14, 1932); passed away. Throughout a six-decade career, Lynn released a number of gold records.
She achieved great success with songs like “Fist City,” “Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind”), “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” and “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl.” The 1980 film Coal Miner’s Daughter was based on her life.
Lynn received numerous accolades and awards for her groundbreaking work in country music, including nods from the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association as a duet partner and a solo performer, respectively. She received three of the 18 Grammy Award nominations that she received.
Why did Loretta Lynn leave her husband?
Lynn was married to Oliver Vanetta “Doolittle” Lynn (1926-1996) for over 50 years before he passed away at the age of 69.
She explained in her 2002 biography Still Woman Enough and in an interview with CBS News the same year how her husband routinely cheated on her and once abandoned her when she was in the middle of giving birth.
Lynn claimed that despite their numerous arguments, “I never let him strike me once without punching him back twice.” According to Loretta, one of the most difficult love stories was her marriage.
