Roger Harry Daltrey is a singer, songwriter, and actor from England. Daltrey is the lead singer and co-founder of the rock band The Who. Daltrey was born in Hammersmith Hospital, East Acton, London, on March 1, 1944, as the eldest of three children to Harry and Irene Daltrey. Harry Daltrey was an insurance clerk who was called up to fight in WWII, forcing Roger and his mother to be evacuated to a farm in Scotland.
Daltrey built his first guitar from a block of wood in 1957, a cherry red Stratocaster replica, and joined the Detours, a skiffle band in need of a lead singer.
