Caetano Emanuel Viana Teles Veloso born on 7 August 1942 is a Brazilian composer, singer, guitarist, writer, and political activist. Veloso rose to prominence in the 1960s as a member of the Brazilian musical movement Tropicalismo, which included theater, poetry, and music.
This was at the start of the Brazilian military dictatorship, which assumed control in 1964. Since then, he has remained a consistent creative influence as well as a best-selling performing artist and composer.
Veloso has received nine Latin Grammy Awards as well as two Grammy Awards. Veloso was named Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year on November 14, 2012.
Veloso is one of Brazil’s few public atheist celebrities. He was raised in a religious Catholic home but abandoned the faith when he was young. Veloso claimed in an interview that he does not like to “lie to his own intelligence” by believing in God.
In a second interview, Veloso sparked outrage by claiming that most Brazilians would be better off if they become irreligious or atheist.
