Hibbert, the youngest of his siblings, was born on December 8th, 1942 in May Pen, Jamaica. Considering that both of Hibbert’s parents were devout Seventh-day Adventist pastors, he grew up singing gospel songs in a church chorus.
When Hibbert was 11 years old, he left an orphan after the young deaths of both of his parents. He moved in with his brother John in Kingston’s Trenchtown district.
He first met Jerry Matthias and Raleigh Gordon in a neighborhood barbershop where he was employed.
What was Toots Hibbert’s cause of death?
Hibbert was said to be in a medically induced coma and “fighting for his life” in the hospital in August 2020. He passed away on September 12, 2020, at the age of 77, according to a statement posted on the band’s Facebook page.
Later, The Gleaner and Rolling Stone corroborated the news, stating that Hibbert had passed away in a medically induced coma at Kingston’s University Hospital of the West Indies. Later, it was determined that COVID-19 from the Jamaican epidemic was the primary factor in his demise.
