Amy Jade Winehouse was an English singer and songwriter who died on July 23, 2011. Her rich, expressive contralto vocals were well-known, as were her broad musical tastes, which included soul, R&B, and jazz.

Despite not being religious, Winehouse was raised Jewish and was proud of her heritage. Winehouse noted in one interview: “In my opinion, being Jewish means coming together as a true family. It isn’t as simple as lighting a candle and uttering a Bracha.” Winehouse frequently performed while wearing a huge Star of David medallion.

In 2013, the Jewish Museum London hosted an exhibition named “Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait” in her honor.

The museum investigated her paternal great-great-arrival grandfather’s in Minsk in 1890 and how the family eventually settled in London, beginning in working-class jobs before progressing to middle-class jobs.

Winehouse has 14 tattoos, including “Daddy’s Girl” on her left arm to honor her father and “Cynthia” on her right arm to honor her Jewish grandmother.

Who is Amy Winehouse’s step brother?

Very little is known about Amy’s stepbrother Michael’s private life, as he avoided the cameras both before and after her death.

We do know he is a school safety officer and the founder of the youth charity Safaplace.

Michael spoke to the Radio Times about his stepsister in an interview for the BBC documentary Reclaiming Amy, which explored the tenth anniversary of the star’s death.

“We were like Topsy and Tim,” Michael explained. Amy and I shared a crib, a bath, the first day of school, and the holidays.

“She’s my very oldest friend. Funny, vibrant, and self-assured, she didn’t take no prisoners and knew exactly what she wanted.”

“I wish I’d known what I know now, been the person I am now,” he continued.

“All of the shame and grief of losing her contributed to that insight, but if only I’d had the ability and knowledge.

“She might have simply told me to f*ck off. I’d seen it happen to others before, she shut them out, and I guess I was frightened of losing her.”
