Amy Jade Winehouse was a singer and songwriter from England who died on July 23, 2011. She was known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals as well as her eclectic musical interests, which encompassed soul, R&B, and jazz.

Despite not being religious, Winehouse was reared Jewish and took pride in her background. In one interview, Winehouse stated: “Being Jewish means coming together as a true family, in my opinion. It’s not as easy as lighting candles and saying a Bracha.” Winehouse performed frequently while wearing a large Star of David medallion.

In her honor, the Jewish Museum London sponsored an exhibition titled “Amy Winehouse: A Family Portrait” in 2013.

The museum looked into her paternal great-great-arrival grandfather in Minsk in 1890 and how the family eventually settled in London, starting in working-class jobs before moving up to middle-class jobs.

Winehouse was known to have 14 tattoos, including “Daddy’s Girl” on her left arm in honor of her father and “Cynthia” on her right arm in honor of her Jewish grandmother.

Her entire probate estate, estimated to be worth roughly $4.7 million after taxes, was distributed to her parents.

Winehouse may have wanted to leave part of her money to people other than her parents, such as her brother or Fielder-Civil, but she failed to do so in her will.
