Playback singer and occasional composer Lata Mangeshkar was born in India on September 28, 1929, and she passed away on February 6, 2022. She is regarded by many as one of India’s greatest and most influential vocalists. Her eight-decade career in the Indian music industry earned her honorific titles like “Queen of Melody,” “Nightingale of India,” and “Voice of the Millennium.”
Although she mostly worked in Marathi, Hindi, and Bengali, Lata recorded songs in more than 36 different Indian languages as well as a few other tongues. She spoke English, Indonesian, Russian, Dutch, Nepali, and Swahili, among other languages. Throughout her career, she won numerous awards and honours. She received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award from the Indian government in 1989.
She was just the second female singer to earn the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, in 2001 in recognition of her achievements to the country, following M. S. Subbulakshmi. Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honor, France’s highest civilian honor, was given to her in 2007.
She received three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, two Filmfare Special Awards, the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, and numerous other honors. She was one of the first Indian playback singers to perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 1974. Her most recent recorded song, “Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti ki,” was released on March 30, 2019, as a tribute to the Indian Army and the nation.
Why Lata di never got married?
The reason for this was that Lata was not from a royal family. As a result, Maharawal Lakshman could not allow his son, Raj Singh, to marry a commoner.
