American retired professional basketball player Jared Scott Carter Jeffries was born on November 25, 1981. Jeffries was selected by the Washington Wizards as the 11th overall choice in the 2002 NBA Draft. Prior to his retirement in 2013, he also had stints with the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, and Portland Trail Blazers.
Jeffries participated in collegiate basketball with the Indiana Hoosiers, and during his sophomore season, he was a crucial component of the team’s Cinderella run to the 2002 NCAA Championship game.
He has also voted the Big Ten Player of the Year and was a unanimous second-team All-American. Since he is 6’11”, he typically plays both forward positions.
Jeffries played basketball for the Indiana University Hoosiers for two years before foregoing his junior and senior years to enter the NBA draft. Bob Knight recruited Jeffries, but Knight was fired shortly before his freshman season.
Jeffries was a vital cog in Indiana’s Cinderella run to the NCAA title game in 2002. In the East Regional semifinals against #1 Duke, Jeffries had 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead Indiana to a 74-73 upset victory. Jeffries was named Big Ten Most Valuable Player in 2002 by the Chicago Tribune.
