Jared Scott Carter Jeffries is a former professional basketball player from the United States. Jeffries played high school basketball at Bloomington High School North, where he advanced to the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) basketball finals in 2000 before losing to Marion High School, which was led by future NBA player Zach Randolph. Sean May, a future North Carolina player, was one of his teammates during his final two years of high school. Jeffries was named Indiana Mr. Basketball in 2000.
Jeffries was a two-year member of the Indiana University Hoosiers before foregoing his junior and senior years to enter the NBA draft. Bob Knight recruited Jeffries, but Knight was fired shortly before his freshman year. Jeffries was a vital cog in Indiana’s Cinderella run to the NCAA championship game in 2002.
Jeffries had 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead Indiana to a 74-73 upset victory over #1 Duke in the East Regional semifinals. Jeffries was named the Chicago Tribune’s 2002 Silver Basketball as the Big Ten’s Most Valuable Player.
