McKinley Morganfield, better known by his stage as Muddy Waters, was a significant role in the post-war blues scene and was an American blues singer, composer, and pianist. As the “founder of modern Chicago blues,” he is frequently referred to.

“Raining down Delta beatitude” has been used to describe Waters’ playing style.

It is unclear with certainty where and when he was born.

He claimed to have been born in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, in 1915; however, other information suggests that he may have been born in Jug’s Corner, in the nearby county of Issaquena, in 1913.

On April 30, 1983, Muddy Waters passed suddenly at his home in Westmont, Illinois, from complications brought on by cancer and heart failure.

He was transferred to the Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Illinois, where he was declared dead, from his home in Westmont, where he had spent the last ten years of his life. He was 70.

Numerous blues musicians and fans attended his funeral on May 4, 1983, which was held at Restvale Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois.

Waters rest in the same grave as his wife, Geneva.
