Chaka Khan is a singer from the United States. Khan’s career, which began in the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the funk band Rufus, has spanned more than five decades.
Khan, dubbed the “Queen of Funk,” was the first R&B artist to have a crossover hit with a rapper, “I Feel for You,” in 1984. Khan has ten Grammy Awards and an estimated 70 million records sold worldwide.
Khan was raised as a Catholic. Khan went to Saint Thomas the Apostle Church’s elementary school in Hyde Park. Khan attributed her love of music to her grandmother, who introduced her to jazz as a child. Khan discovered rhythm and blues music as a preteen and, at the age of eleven, formed the Crystalettes with her sister Taka.
