Alexander N. Green born September 1, 1947, is an American lawyer and politician who has represented Texas’s 9th congressional district since 2005. Green, a Democrat, served as the justice of the peace for Harris County, Texas, from 1977 to 2004.

The 9th congressional district encompasses the majority of southwestern Houston and a portion of Fort Bend County, including the majority of Missouri City.

Green was born in the Louisiana city of New Orleans. He attended Florida A&M and Tuskegee Universities. In 1974, he graduated from Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law with a Juris Doctorate. He is a member of the fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha.

Green has focused his efforts in Congress on the same issues he worked on at the Houston NAACP: fair housing and hiring standards for the poor and minorities.

During the Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Luncheon at the NAACP National Convention in 2017, Congressman Al Green met Dayton NAACP President Derrick L. Foward.

Green co-founded the law firm Green, Wilson, Dewberry, and Fitch after graduating from law school. He stayed in Houston and now lives in the Alief neighborhood.

Green was elected judge of the peace in Harris County, Texas, in 1978. He served in this capacity for 26 years before retiring in 2004.

In 1981, Green campaigned for mayor of Houston and finished sixth in the Democratic primary.
