Leon Farb, the son of Rose Farb and photographer Jacob Farb, was born Farr on April 10, 1927, in New York
. He was reared in Brooklyn and received his high school diploma from Boys High School in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of the borough.
Before enrolling at Penn State University, where he earned a geophysics bachelor’s degree, he joined the US Navy. He participated in school productions and took some acting classes while attending Penn State.
Before switching to acting, Farr worked as a geologist in the beginning.
He made an appearance in season one of The Detectives. From 1950 until the 1970s, he also appeared in several other television programs, such as Perry Mason, Bonanza, Lassie, Mission: Impossible, The Rifleman, Laramie, Trackdown, and M Squad.
He appeared in the 1958 movies Thundering Jets, Tarawa Beachhead, Lone Texan, and Gunfighters of Abilene, among others.

On March 23, 2017, Farr, 89, passed away from cancer at his home in the Woodland Hills section of Los Angeles, California.
He was survived by the daughter he had with his first wife, the actress Felicia Farr, Denise Farr (wife of actor Don Gordon). His half-brothers Abe and Dave Caroff as well as his sister Lottie Kelban predeceased him.
