John Bird was an English satirist, actor, and comedian who was born on November 22, 1936, and died on December 24, 2022.
He was best known for his work in television satire, where he made numerous appearances alongside John Fortune.
John Bird went to High Pavement Grammar School in Nottingham and was born in Bulwell, Nottingham. He met John Fortune while attending King’s College, Cambridge. Bird turned out to be notable during the TV parody blast of the 1960s, showing up in That Was The Week That Was, the title of which was authored by Bird.
Ned Sherrin intended for Bird to play David Frost in the series, but Bird was cast elsewhere. He also appeared in The Secret Policeman’s Other Ball and the television shows Not So Much a Programme, More a Way of Life, If It Moves File It, Dangerous Brothers, and My Father Knew Lloyd George.

From 1978 to their marriage, he lived with Libby Crandon, a pianist, and teacher. From her previous marriage, he had two stepsons. Bird was a Surrey native who lived in Newdigate. On December 24, 2022, at the age of 86, Bird passed away at the Pendean House Care Home in Midhurst, West Sussex.
