Robert Nesta Marley OM was a Jamaican singer, musician, and songwriter who lived from 6 February 1945 – 11 May 1981.
In addition to having a distinctive voice and songwriting approach, his musical career was defined by the confluence of reggae, ska, and rocksteady.
He is regarded as one of reggae’s founding fathers. Marley’s contributions to music increased the international recognition of Jamaican music and solidified his status in contemporary popular culture.
Over the course of his career, Marley established himself as a Rastafari icon and infused spirituality into his songs.
