Rhodes was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and was born in 1937, but some sources state 1936. He had graduated from Canada’s National Theatre School.

The majority of Rhodes’ on-screen appearances in American television have been in supporting parts. In 1965, he made two appearances on Laredo: as Bob Jamison in Rendezvous at Arillo and as the main character in “The Trap,” an episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.

The next year, Rhodes was chosen to play Don Carlos in The Would-Be Gentleman of Laredo.

He appeared in numerous American television and film projects, but for American viewers, he is arguably best remembered for his roles as the unfortunate escaped prisoner Dutch Leitner on the soap opera parody Soap and as Phillip Chancellor II on The Young and the Restless.
