Kaye was born in Ernabella about 1955. Her early years were spent at the mission until her family relocated to the Fregon village. Kaye worked in the craft area at Fregon. In the 1980s, she relocated to Kanpi, her father Jimmy Baker’s native area, and assisted in the establishment of a modest art and crafts room.
She worked, lived, and worked closely with her father until his death in 2010, caring for him in his latter years of illness. She describes their discussions on how artists transform their homeland’s history into works on canvas and the need of preserving the practice of painting as cultural upkeep.
