On January 19, 1960, in East St. Louis, Illinois, Alfrederick “Al” Joyner, an American track and field coach and former athlete, was born.
At the 1984 Olympics, he won the gold medal in the triple jump.
In addition, he worked with the late Florence Griffith Joyner, an Olympic medalist who was also his partner and trainer. He is the sibling of Olympic medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee.

He married Florence Griffith Joyner, an American track and field athlete.
Although they were married in 1987, Florence tragically died from an epileptic seizure. Later, after Florence’s tragic loss, Joyner changed his life and wed Alisha Biehn. Since their 2003 wedding, the couple has been together.

Joyner is the father of two daughters, Mary Ruth Joyner and Skylar Rose Joyner, and a boy, Jayden Alfredrick Joyner.
