Mills Lane, the iconic boxing referee renowned for coining the term “Let’s get it on,” has passed away at the age of 85.

Lane was a prosecutor and judge in Nevada, as well as a referee from the 1970s until the 1990s.

In 1997, he was the referee for the historic second bout between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, in which Tyson bit Holyfield’s ear off, and became a household name almost immediately.

In the claymation satire “Celebrity Death Match” on MTV, where he served as the referee, Lane became a cultural hero.

He resigned as a judge to star on the reality television show “Judge Mills Lane,” in which Lane acted as an arbitrator. Three seasons of the show aired between 1998 and 2001. Lane was the NCAA welterweight champion while attending the University of Nevada and nearly qualified for the Olympics.

Lane’s son, Tommy, informed the Reno Gazette-Journal that his father, who had a stroke 20 years earlier, had spent the previous week in hospice. Tommy Lane told the newspaper that “his entire status took a significant decline.” “ The departure occurred swiftly. He felt at ease in the presence of his family. Lane was accompanied by his wife Kay and sons Tommy and Terry.
