Plantagenet Lucius Alexander Cary, Master of Falkland (born 1 February 1963) is an English screenwriter, producer, and ex-soldier. Cary was born in Hammersmith to Lucius Viscount Falkland and Caroline Butler. He grew up in Chelsea, where his neighbors included actors André Morell and Joan Greenwood. From the age of twelve, he knew he wanted to work in the film industry.
He began his education at Westminster School but was expelled before completing his A-levels and being sent to Loretto in Scotland. He graduated with unremarkable grades and, after a brief stint as a runner in a New York theater, joined the army on the spur of the moment: “I had a bet with a friend who didn’t think I’d be able to do it, but I was hooked. Having been a total pain in the neck when it came to authority in school, I found a strange pleasure in being given instructions and carrying them out.” In 1985, he graduated from Sandhurst Military Academy and was assigned to Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles. During the Gulf War, he was attached to a company of American marines and saw action.
He left the military shortly after the war to pursue a career as a screenwriter in Hollywood. After a decade of little success, he was hired as a writer for the first season of Lie to Me in 2009. He later worked as a writer and producer for Homeland, as well as on The Riches and In Plain Sight. He married American actress Jennifer Marsala, a Homeland cast member, in 2013. On December 31, 2013, the couple married in Somerset. He has a son, Lucius, from his first marriage to Linda Purl, as well as a natural son, Sebastien. On 10 February 2015, he appeared on the BBC show The Gift, where he met a fellow ex-soldier who wanted to thank him for saving his life.
