Lothaire Bluteau was born in Montreal, Quebec, on April 14, 1957, and he performs in both French and English. In Canada and abroad, Bluteau has worked in theater, cinema, and television. He gave up medicine to pursue acting, and his portrayal of a young person with mental impairment in Yves Simoneau’s In the Shadow of the Wind brought him first attention (Les Fous de Bassan).

He earned a Genie Award for best actor for his portrayal in Denys Arcand’s Oscar-nominated Jésus de Montréal after garnering rave reviews for his work as the lead in the stage adaptation of Being at Home with Claude.
