George Raymond Stevenson was born on May 25, 1964, in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, the second of three sons to Irish parents. His father was a pilot in the Royal Air Force. He moved to England with his family when he was eight years old, first to the Lemington area of Newcastle upon Tyne and then to Seaton Delaval.
He graduated from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School at the age of 29. Stevenson made his film debut as a gigolo hired to help Helena Bonham Carter’s character lose her virginity in The Theory of Flight (1998). Prior to graduating from the London Film School, he starred in the short film No Man’s Land, which was the antipodal picture from actor/director Edward Hicks. Stevenson played an experienced private who is forced to assist a novice officer (David Birkin) back to safety after they both find themselves trapped and isolated in “No Man’s Land” during the Battle of Ypres. In 2004, he played Dagonet, a knight of the round table who gives his life for his comrades, in King Arthur.

His first leading role was in the Scottish horror film Outpost (2008), where he played a mercenary pitted against Nazi zombies in an Eastern European bunker. That same year, he appeared in Punisher: War Zone as Frank Castle / The Punisher, a former Marine who became a vigilante after his family was murdered. He appeared as an antagonist in the 2010 comedy The Other Guys.
He has two brothers, one younger and one older. Much is unknown about his siblings.
