John Kavanagh is an Irish actor who was born in 1946 and has appeared in theater, television, and over twenty films, some of which include Cal (1984), Braveheart (1995), and Alexander (2004). Most recently, he has become well-known for his role as The Seer in the series Vikings, which airs on the History Channel.
Kavanagh got his start in the entertainment industry with the 1970 Irish comedy Paddy, in which he had a supporting role as Willie Egan. In the same year, he had another minor part in the film The McKenzie Break (1970), which was set during World War II and was about a prisoner-of-war camp in Scotland from which the inmates are planning an escape. In the 1970s, the Irish stage production of “Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well and Living in Paris” starred Kavanagh, who was also a singer and an actor. Kavanagh portrayed the major role in the performance (alongside his sister Anne Bushnell).
