On August 14, 1971, Peter Vilhelm Franzén, a Finnish actor, dramatist, screenwriter, and director, was born. His most well-known appearance was in the Vikings series as King Harald Finehair (2016–2020).
Franzén was born in Keminmaa, which is in northern Finland. According to Franzén, his stepfather’s aggressiveness and drunkenness made growing up challenging for him. Later, Franzén made a point of emphasizing his relationship with his abusive stepfather in his semi-autobiographical work Above Dark Waters.
He first met the actress Irina Björklund, who would become his wife, at the Theatre Academy of Finland. They moved to Los Angeles in 1999 and stayed there until 2013, when they moved to Roquevaire, France. In September 2007, they welcomed a son.
Franzén has acted in more than 50 movies and TV shows. Franzén was hailed as “one of the most skilled and varied performers in Finland” by Variety magazine’s Jay Weissberg for his performance in Dog Nail Clipper, for which he won a Jussi Award for Best Actor.
