Alcoholic beverage sales will not be permitted inside stadiums during the Qatar World Cup in 2022, according to FIFA.
48 hours before the tournament started, the country’s royal family exerted pressure on the football governing body to drop the idea of selling alcohol at all of the venues. “Following discussions between host country authorities and FIFA, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the FIFA Fan Festival, other fan destinations, and licensed venues, removing beer sales points from the perimeters of Qatar’s FIFA World Cup 2022 stadiums,” FIFA stated.
The sale of Bud Zero is unaffected and will continue throughout the competition.
Concourse sales appear to be prohibited, contrary to earlier plans that had allowed supporters exemptions to buy alcohol in designated fan zones and on stadium concourses during specific hours. As permitted by Qatari legislation, tourists may still purchase alcoholic beverages from hotels and restaurants with licenses.
The host nation’s government and FIFA will keep up their efforts to make sure that all supporters have a good time, are treated with respect, and have a nice experience in the stadiums and surrounding regions. “The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 organizers appreciate AB InBev’s understanding and ongoing support to our joint commitment to cater to everyone,” they said.
